Hiya, I’m the webmaster at caffeineandlasers.com
At the moment I am editing one of the longest blog posts I’ve written where I manage to talk about transhumanism, technofeudalism, christian history and cultural sociology. Which is a lot to try and cram into one post, but hopefully I’ll have it online by Friday
That’s awesome, Cam! It sounds like it’s going to be a really interesting deep dive. 🙌 Please feel free to post the link to it here once you’ve got it completed!
Here’s it is!

I wanted to post this directly on your blog but I surpassed the character limit. But I wanted to reply to this after reading as it’s a really interesting read!
I relate to so much of this. It is true that technology has become such a part of us already that we’ve become dependent on it. It really does feel like a part of us is missing without it. I could live without the doomscrolling and social media, but my biggest thing is that it keeps me connected to my loved ones, even if only via text/call. If I don’t have it with me, suddenly I feel disconnected and isolated. I’m definitely really dependent on it for reaching my family and friends.
As for the algorithm, I remember Facebook and social media didn’t start off this way. But it’s become unrecognizable from what it was. I don’t really see much point in scrolling Facebook anymore. The whole point of it used to be to connect with loved ones. Now, 90% of the posts in my feed are ads, suggested posts, and group posts. I’ve left Facebook before for months-years at a time. I think I could easily do it again, I just mainly keep it around for messenger and Marketplace.
It is concerning, knowing these systems know us better than we know ourselves but, I do think the more people are aware of these things, the more control we have over it, just being conscious of it. Technology is kind of a double edged sword. It’s incredibly useful, and there are a lot of innovations I really love, but also a lot of really toxic ways it can be used. And when it comes to transhumanism, we’re definitely already kind of there. There’s a lot I’ll experiment with, and I can’t speak for everyone but I know I absolutely draw the line at physically merging with it (ex. microchips/neuralink/etc). It’s one thing to use it externally outside of our bodies but… I think it’ll be a whole other ball game when people start merging their own consciousness with it, physically integrating it inside of our bodies. I feel like it could very possibly open up the door to mind control, complete loss of autonomy, potentially become ‘hackable’ and no longer in control of our own thoughts, feelings, words, or actions.
This was a really thought provoking and interesting read! Definitely something everyone should reflect on, just to become more conscious and self aware of. The more conscious we are of it and how it effects us, the more power we have to break free of these systems of control and can create our own path on how we interact with technology. Thank you so much for sharing it here!
